Personal Safety Guidelines

The safety of our guests and crew takes precedence over everything else.  Whoodat is equipped with safety equipment meeting or exceeding U.S. Coast Guard requirements.  Although every precaution has been taken and the skipper has ultimate responsibility for the safety of the guests, crew and vessel, each guest and crew member has the following individual responsibility:

  • Wear your PFD at all times while aboard and a strobe after dark unless skipper indicates otherwise.

  • No illicit drugs or smoking is permitted onboard.  You may bring beer and wine aboard with prior permission of the skipper.  See our policy on this.

  • Let the skipper know, in advance, of any health problems that could potentially arise while under sail and away from regular medical care.  Included in this are diabetes, heart conditions, muscle and joint problems, asthma, epilepsy, severe allergic reactions, use of any psychotropic medications, etc.

  • Avoid glass or breakable containers.

  • Lifelines and stanchions are for emergency use only.  Do not lean against them as this puts undue stress on them and reduces their effectiveness in times of emergency.

  • Head is available for onboard use.  Please use shore side facilities before departure.  Please read instructions posted on the wall of the head before operating.   If in doubt check with skipper.

  • When moving about the boat stay low and make deliberate movements.  Be alert to deck obstacles (deck fittings, lines, etc.)  which might trip you or cause you to lose your footing.

  • Accidental jibes occur occasionally and without warning.  Make sure that your head is clear of the path of the boom at all times.

  • Treat the vessel like it was your own.  Be gentle while moving about, closing hatch covers, etc.  Try not to force anything.

  • If in doubt- check with the Skipper.
